Summer is here! Gone are the weeks of overhead swells and light crowds. Gone are the days of getting a parking spot/lot to yourself. Don't fret. We are carrying some of the best small wave boards on the planet. Straight out of San Diego are 6 new Logs from Kookbox. Owner/professional surfer Joel Tudor has brought together some of California's best shapers to create this new company. Considered to be in a classification of their own, Kookboxs are not retro nor high performance. Just forward thinking to create some of the best longboards geared to our little summer waves. Limited production, hard to find. Joel is known to frequently visit the east end, so that may have played a little role in Flying Point getting a few. Looking for something shorter? In the mail are new boards from ...Lost and Roberts. Small wave shred sticks for skinny groms, rippers and old farts who refuse to transition into longboarding.
I recently flew south to sunny San Diego to snap a couple of photos of surfer/filmmaker Cyrus Sutton for a print publication. Cyrus was riding a Wegener shaped kookbox at Beacons, and we stopped at his tree lair in Encinitas for a few more snaps and a chat about recent happenings. Cyrus is currently busy touring his new film “Stoked & Broke” around the country. It’s an introspective journey and staycation surf trip in the San Diego area and definitely worth a watch.
